In May 2022, Lufthansa finally presented its first 787-9 at its paint shop factory in Boeing, USA. The aircraft was registered as D-ABPA and was named after the German capital "Berlin". Airplanes using city names are also a Lufthansa tradition. Lufthansa deliveries are 787-9 and 777-9 vehicles to customers. The 777-9, upgraded from the 777X family, is the world's largest twin-engine airliner and is expected to enter service in 2025. Lufthansa, the first customer of the 777-9, has ordered 20 aircraft, which will be equipped with 400 seats.
The 787-9 aircraft disclosed by Lufthansa was originally built for Hainan Airlines and although it first flew in August 2019, it was not accepted by Hainan Airlines.
Boeing later transferred it to Vestara, India, but it was never delivered. Now, if certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Boeing 787-9 should arrive at Lufthansa in the second half of this year
